Wisconsin Democrats lose their challenge to legislative districts drawn up by Republicans in 2010.
The U.S. Supreme Court rules in similar cases of political gerrymandering in North Carolina and Maryland that Federal Courts have no jurisdiction in such challenges.
Representative Amanda Stuck of Appleton believes an independent commission would be able to come up with competitive districts in Wisconsin–despite the concentration of Democrats in urban areas. She says there are examples out there of how to draw good, fair districts.
Democrats often point to Iowa as an example of a state that has fair districts drawn up by an independent commission.
