There’s a push to match younger girls with a mentor in Brown and Shawano counties.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Wisconsin is looking for “Littles” between seven and 10 years old.
Katie Hess is the executive director. She says they’ve found when girls join the program at a younger age, they match them quicker.
Hess says they’re seeing more girls between 11 and 13 joining the program. Unfortunately, she says some of them already have specific needs, because they’ve been dealing with anxiety, depression, or bullying. She says it can take longer to find a mentor to help them.
The group will be reaching out to parents through a StrongHer Together campaign.
