A Republican lawmaker says a move by Governor Evers to block a study on the future of the Green Bay state prison, puts a potential project on the shelf.
Evers vetoed funding to look for a site for a new facility.
Rep. David Steffen is from Howard. He believes the veto is a loss for staff, inmates, and taxpayers. He thinks the current prison is a degrading facility, with inefficient operations, in a dangerous environment.
Steffen is calling it the most dangerous prison in the state.
Steffen has been working with Allouez village leaders in hopes of redeveloping the current prison site along Highway 172.
