The leader of Allouez hopes to keep making the case to Governor Evers to replace the Green Bay state prison.
The governor vetoed funding in the new budget to search for a site. Evers says he doesn’t want to build a new maximum security facility while he’s working on criminal justice reforms.
Village President Jim Rafter is looking to redevelop the site of the current prison along Highway 172. He says if Evers is sincere in wanting prison reform, then he should identify the need and act on it instead of waiting.
Rafter says if they’re not going to build a new prison the state would have to find another place to move the inmates.
