Appleton’s public schools will get about $650,000 in unexpected funding through budget vetoes by Governor Evers.
Chief Financial Officer Greg Hartjes says that will help with their projected shortfall in next year’s budget. He says some of the money could be put toward raises. He says they hope to give staff raises of close to two percent.
Hartjes points out the consumer price index is around 2.3 percent. He says that means the raises wouldn’t keep up with what workers are getting in the private sector.
Governor Evers used his veto pen to provide almost $90 million in additional money for public schools across the state.
