Green Bay police are seeing a spike in counterfeit money cases around the city.
Lt. Ben Allen says the suspects are buying a small item with a larger fake bill to get back real change. He says the transactions will happen at busy times, and some people don’t realize the bills are fake until they’re counting the money at night.
Allen says they’ve seen nearly a dozen cases so far this year. He says fast food restaurants and stores on Green Bay’s west side have been recent targets. Allen wants businesses to mark the bills and try to get a description if someone uses counterfeit bills.
