Lawmakers haven’t taken up a bill that would close what’s called the dark store loophole despite support from both sides of the aisle.
Some local leaders are calling that corrupt.
Grand Chute town chairman Dave Schowalter used that word during a town hall meeting this week.
He feels lawmakers are getting pressure from Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce not to take up the bill.
Senate President Roger Roth of Appleton expects discussions to take place over the next several weeks and that could lead to a hearing.
Roth says nothing about this process deserves that kind of language.
An attorney for the WMC claims the so called dark store loophole doesn’t exist.
Cory Fish says it’s a fabricated term created by local governments that want to hike taxes on businesses.
He’s asking for an apology from Schowalter who says they shouldn’t hold their breath.
