Power outages might be connected to three overnight fires in Appleton.
Deputy Chief Darrel Baker says crews got the power back on in a neighborhood, not long before a call came in around 3:45 a.m. He says there were smoke and flames coming from basement windows at a house in the 900 block of E. North Street.
There’s significant smoke damage inside.
Baker says while they’re not 100 percent sure that the restoration of power caused the fire, but they know it led to the two other fires.
In both cases, Baker says people left things on a stove. He believes they either didn’t turn off the burner, or accidentally turned it on. He says it’s a good reminder to keep stovetops clear.
