Three lawmakers are introducing a bill to legalize medical marijuana in Wisconsin.
Two are Democrats, Sen. Jon Erpenbach of West Point and Rep. Chris Taylor of Madison. The third is Republican Sen. Patrick Testin of Stevens Point.
Patients would need to get a doctor’s recommendation. State health officials would create a registry, and agriculture officials would set up a licensing system for growers, producers, and sellers.
The bill faces an uphill fight in the Republican-controlled Legislature. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos is open to legalizing medical marijuana, but Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says he doesn’t support it.
