The City of Appleton made it through all of the rain in September without any huge problems.
Utilities Director Chris Shaw says some rainwater can end up at their wastewater treatment plant. He says it gets into the system through leaks or cracks in underground pipes, and raises their intake levels.
Shaw calls the steady rain really more of an annoyance for staff at the plant. He says they’re usually only impacted when there’s a lot of rain in a short amount of time.
Public Works Director Paula Vandehey says some construction projects were delayed by a month.
She thinks the work on the site of the former Blue Ramp is a good example. She says they haven’t been able to finish leveling off the site and plant grass, because their equipment would damage the wet ground.
Vandehey says they recorded nearly 7.7 inches during the month, and the average is 3.2. She says another two inches fell in the city over the first two days of October.
