An expert says people should be careful how they use their phones and other devices when they’re on public Wi-Fi.
State Consumer Protection Director Michelle Reinen says they shouldn’t do critical online banking or check work email, using a public Wi-Fi connection, because of the potential for identity theft.
She says even plugging a phone into a cable or port you don’t trust is the same as letting someone have a copy of all of your data. She says it’s also an invite to put a program or virus on your device.
