The budget for the Appleton school district is almost finished.
The school board held a public hearing last night, and members are expected to vote on the plan next week.
District Chief Financial Officer Greg Hartjes says while they’re always looking for more funding to help students, he believes the state budget was fair. He says they were able to hire more staff, especially to support their new truancy system. He says their special education costs also went up.
The preliminary property tax rate is $8.33. That’s a drop of 35 cents from last year, mainly because all properties in Appleton were reassessed. Property owners would pay $833 for every $100,000 of value.
