The race for Appleton mayor is now down to eight candidates.
Three of the 11 people that filed paperwork didn’t have enough valid signatures to be on the ballot. They’re Christian Pitsch, Jeremy Scholz, and Christopher Washburn.
Every candidate had to turn in at least 200 valid signatures. City Clerk Kami Lynch says the biggest problem was people living outside of Appleton signed some of the nomination papers, and those have to be thrown out.
Lynch says people can also only sign one candidate’s papers. If they do more, the additional ones are thrown out.
The primary will be on February 18th. The top two finishers will meet in the April 7th election.
