The Outagamie County dispatch center received almost 4,400 hang-up 911 calls from around the City of Appleton last year.
Police Officer Meghan Cash says that’s a sharp increase from previous years. She believes technology is a factor, and some of them are coming from smart watches, and popular smart home systems.
Cash says when people mis-dial 911, they should stay on the line and explain to the dispatcher what happened. Otherwise, she says a police officer will go to the GPS location of the call, to make sure everything is OK.
