Crash scenes are becoming more dangerous for emergency responders.
Seven of them have been killed in the U.S. in just the first two weeks of the year.
Fond du Lac Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says they now send an extra truck to act as a barricade for paramedics and firefighters. He says they used to try to keep as many lanes open as possible, but now they’re more conscious about safety.
So far this winter, a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s squad car was seriously damaged after being hit at an accident scene. A deputy had to jump out of the way of a driver who lost control on a snow-covered road, while passing another crash site.
