A new safety service created by the UW-Oshkosh student association and campus police is being called a hit.
UWO GO is an app that lets students and staff order a free ride from police, to get anywhere in the department’s boundaries.
UW-Oshkosh Police Capt. Christopher Tarmann says since its launch in November, they’ve given more than 2,000 rides. He says that’s double the number they usually serve in the safe ride or safe walk program.
Tarmann believes the new program is more successful because now a phone call isn’t required, so students are more trusting they won’t get into trouble using the service.
Tarman says the goal is to provide that extra bit of safety.
