It will be up to Oshkosh’s school board to decide how to move forward with plans to eventually close six schools.
Deputy Superintendent David Gunlach believes they’ll hold a November referendum on the first phase. That would cover building a new Merrill Middle School.
Merrill and Washington Elementaries would close, along with Webster-Stanley Middle School. The plans also call for a bigger, new Webster-Stanley Elementary, and construction would start once the larger middle school is ready.
Gunlach anticipates the referendum will be for around $107 million.
He doesn’t expect to start on the second phase for several years. That calls for closing Roosevelt and Shapiro STEM Elementaries, as well as Perry Tipler Middle School.
