There will be a bigger mix of tip-ups and spears on Lake Winnebago this weekend.
It’s the final weekend of sturgeon spearing, and the Battle on Bago ice fishing tournament starts today.
Noah Hinrichs of Battle on Bago says they’ll have about $275,000 in prizes, and people don’t have to catch the biggest fish to win. He says someone with the 500th-largest on the list might get one of the big prizes.
Hinrichs says they’re paying close attention to local fishing clubs when it comes to ice conditions. He says trucks are allowed on Lake Poygan, but Lake Winnebago is limited to snowmobiles and ATVs.
The proceeds from Battle on Bago go to local youth and conservation groups.
