Prosecutors believe the suspect in the murder of a three-year-old Appleton girl initially planned to poison the girl and her pregnant mother.
Both were stabbed in an attack at the 27-year-old woman’s apartment on Appleton’s east side.
Three-year-old Zyana Corbin was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Outagamie County District Attorney Melinda Tempelis says 25-year-old Demetrius Williams was upset the woman was planning to break up with him. She says he pepper-sprayed the woman, and started stabbing her last Wednesday night.
She says the woman eventually got out of the apartment, through a patio door, to get help, and that’s when he stabbed the girl.
The woman and the unborn child survived. Williams is the father.
He’s in custody on a $2 million bond.
The woman’s apartment is in the 500 block of N. Kensington Drive. Williams turned himself in at a nearby gas station.
Corbin’s family created a GoFundMe page to raise money for the girl’s funeral costs.
