Stealing packages from outside homes in Wisconsin will have more severe penalties.
Republican Rep. Dave Murphy of Greenville helped work on a bill to make it a felony for taking at least 10 packages. He says thieves could also face a felony right away, for taking one package from an elderly person or an at-risk adult.
Murphy says they’re seeing more problems with stolen packages, and they want to protect people. He thinks it’s also important to send a message to thieves.
If people are caught stealing fewer than 10, they could be charged with a misdemeanor.
Governor Evers signed the bill into law this week.
