Next month will officially be “No Mow May” in Appleton, in hopes of helping bees and other pollinators.
The city council approved the proposal on an 8-7 vote.
Ald. Katie Van Zeeland pushed to put the city’s eight-inch height limit back in place at the start of June. She says she heard concerns from neighbors about letting it continue on for the first two weeks in June, under a grace period.
Council members agreed to drop the grace period.
Unless the city would get an excessive amount of rain, Van Zeeland doesn’t think grass would grow taller than eight inches over a four-week period anyway.
