TOWN OF WAUSAUKEE, Wis. — A Kaukauna man dies in a drowning Saturday in Marinette County.
Just before 4 p.m., Marinette County Sheriff’s deputies, along with fire and rescue crews, were dispatched to Butterfly Lake in the Town of Wausaukee for a report of a possible drowning.
The first deputy on the scene entered the water to help others in recovering the person involved. He’s identified as 47-year-old John Van Rossum of Kaukauna.
Van Rossum was taken to Aurora Medical Center-Marinette, where he was later pronounced dead.
Sheriff’s deputies say Van Rossum had been swimming and began calling for help before going under the water’s surface.
