Red Smith Banquet coming!

Wednesday, Nov, 6 2013

Had Joe Ornstein from the Red Smith Sports Award Banquet on the show this morning. The date for this year's banquet is Tuesday,  January 21st, once again at the Radisson Paper Valley in Appleton.

This is one of the highlight's of the oft-long Wisconsin winter. We bring in great sports dignitaries, recognize local sports volunteers, and award some of the area's great young athletes. Plus, it's a fun opportunity to goof off and enjoy a fun night out!

Get your tickets for this year's banquet by calling Joe at 920-570-2536, jorstein@gmail.com, or go to redsmith. org for more info.  PLUS..a bonus: we will tip you off to the special award winners and speakers that are coming to the banquet right here on my blog.  One of this coming January's honorees is.....golden. I will explain more in the coming days.....

Last Halloween dash!

Tuesday, Oct, 29 2013

Remember the last year you were allowed to trick or treat?  I do!

Went with two of my buds and we scoured every neighborhood within a mile or two!  We double and triple layered our goodie bags so they wouldn't break or fail with all the running we were doing in between houses.  We jumped fences, leaped over hedges...heck, we probably broke the four-minute trick or treat mile!  When I got back home that night and dumped out the treats, it almost covered the kitchen table!  Mom had to do the obligatory safety check of the candy, but it was all good.  I kept all the Nestle Crunch and 1000 Grand's and she took all of those awful peanut butter chewy things...remember those?

I had enough candy to safely get to Christmas, when Mom's cookies and fudge started kickin' in!  Safe to say that I was hopped up on sugar for a few weeks that year!

Addicted to.....Oreos!

Wednesday, Oct, 16 2013

No kidding...Connecticut College professors have done a study with lab rats, and when tested with various food products in their cages, they ran back to the "stuff" in the middle of the Oreo!  They loved the taste and wanted more!  That explains it!  Why you can't eat just a couple---you grab a handful!

I can't even remember that last time we had Oreos in the house, but I bet they didn't last long.  I still remember when they came out with Double Stuff...what a day!

Kinda makes you wonder how many OTHER products have the same qualities, hmmm?

The power of Chiefs

Tuesday, Oct, 8 2013

So I'm at this past weekend's NASCAR race in Kansas City.  Weird...it was almost 90 on Friday afternoon for practice, by race time on Sunday it was mostly cloudy, windy and 54.

Then, half way through the race, a fire breaks out in turn one at the track.  Not on the track itself but up about 40 yards above the track where a grill in the hospitality area started some bushes on fire!  Caution comes out...KC BBQ is outstanding, but I'll pass on the BBQ'd hydrangea.

About 75 laps to go in the race and I notice a group of people get up and they're going nuts, doing the tomahawk chop and thrusting their hand up in the air!!  Then I get it--they are Kansas City Chiefs fans, the boys just completed a comeback in their game, and the Chefs are now 5-0.  After winning just 2 games last year, I can understand their glee....but, sit the hell down!
