Special "Pack Yak" Friday PhilCast

Friday, Apr, 19 2013

Wow.

That's all I can say. Wow.

What an interesting 2013 schedule for the Green Bay Packers.

Overall observations and a game-by-game break down in a special Pack Yak today on the PhilCast with my co-host Rich Ratay.

Barring covering breaking news on the Boston bombing story we will cover the Packers story right after the 3:30 news today.

The "Brewers' Game Game"

Thursday, Apr, 18 2013

The Brewers play an afternoon game on WHBY Thursday, meaning the start of the PhilCast will be slightly delayed. Which brings me to the subject matter of today's blog.

When there is an afternoon game on a radio station that carries the Milwaukee Brewers play-by-play the afternoon show air-talent sits and waits for their show to begin, not knowing exactly when that will be.

Now I know this is no big deal for you the listener, but believe me when I tell you it's a big deal for the people waiting to go on the air with their shows. There are paid commercials on a log involved....show content planned....interviews/guests possibly hanging in the balance, newscasts. It matters.

It has also become a science as to guessing when the post-game show will end and the regular programming will start.

Several of my former producers used to always try to guess that exact time. But which guy is the best at doing it? That's my "Brewers' Game Game" this season. Former (and current) producers guess the exact time the Brewers' coverage will end on afternoon games. The closest to the exact time without going over wins 10 points. Hit the time exactly and it's a whopping 25 points!

At the end of the season the winner is the man with the most points. (and I buy them lunch)
This afternoon marks round three. Current standings:

 Reggie: 10 pts.

 Armen: 10 pts.

 Greg: 0 pts.

 Doug?

It occurs to me that yet another former producer of mine, Doug Russell, may want to be in on this. All these guys can be found on Twitter. Doug, you want in? Heck you could start today in Round 3 tied with Greg and you haven't even played yet! Let me know.

And feel free to play along at home this afternoon. Go Brewers. Talk to you after the game.

Let 'em eat cake!

Wednesday, Apr, 17 2013

One of the stories I have for the Wednesday PhilCast is about a couple of rather unique cakes. One of the cakes teaches a lesson about how NOT to steal someone else's cake.

The other cake is quite unique.

See this guy here? It's his story really. After his child was born he decided to persue his dream of running his own cake business.

But he had a job at an airport and he needed to quit that job to give his full attention to his love of cake decorating.

Turns out he's a pretty creative guy too.

He combined the two things by turning in his resignation written on a cake. Perfect!

His story and photos of his cake have now gone viral, a good start to marketing his new business I'd say.

I'll miss those legs

Tuesday, Apr, 16 2013

I'll miss those legs on my TV screen every Sunday night as I settle in for ANOTHER three-hour NFL game.

Faith Hill says she's out. I'm not exactly sure why.

No replacement has been named, which begs the question, who should take up the torch  singing on "Football Night in America"?

We'll discuss on the Tuesday PhilCast at some point.

So long "Lumpy"

Monday, Apr, 15 2013

I'll be honest with you. Had you asked me who Frank Bank was I would have had no idea. But I woke up Monday morning to the news that he had died.

Frank Bank?

OH, you mean "Lumpy" there in the middle from "Leave It to Beaver"!

Lumpy was a goofy, dim bully on the show back in the days when bullying wasn't a problem being address in society like it is today.

I loved this show. Gotta talk about Lumpy and the gang on the PhilCast today. Which will also lead itself into this March Madness-type bracket Yahoo did for the greatest TV show theme songs of all time.

Good stuff. We'll discuss that and the Masters golf marathon from yesterday as well.
