Wisconsin’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled over Initiative starts today.
DOT Director of Transportation Safety David Pabst says they will have extra police officers out looking for intoxicated drivers. He says their goal isn’t to make more arrests, but to discourage people from driving under the influence.
Pabst says the higher visibility of law enforcement alone helps reduce drunk driving numbers.
The state does 24 OWI task force operations a year that increase police presence in areas of the state.
Pabst says he wants to remind people to designate before they celebrate and make sure they have a safe ride home.
The campaign runs until Labor Day.
