Green Bay’s 9-11 Memorial is deteriorating, and police officers and firefighters gathered around it Monday, for a decommissioning ceremony.
Crews removed a piece of steel girder that was from the World Trade Center.
Fire Chief David Litton says the warped and twisted metal is a reminder of what happened 16 years ago today. He says it’s the department’s vow that the monument must live on.
Right now, the girder will be moved to the lobby of the Green Bay police department. Eventually, the city plans to build a new monument, as part of a new police station.
