A former village board member in Howard is on trial on charges that he molested two students during piano lessons.
A jury started hearing the case of 64-year-old James Widiger this morning in Brown County court. Prosecutors charged him with two counts of repeatedly sexually assaulting a child, and one count of sexually assaulting a child under 16.
They say former students came forward with the accusations. One of the girls was 14 when charges were filed against Widiger in March of last year. Prosecutors say another woman reported that Widiger molested her in 2003, when she was 13.
The trial is scheduled to last until at least Thursday.
