The truancy court for the Appleton school district will be suspended for the rest of the school year.
The move comes after some concerns about the treatment of students and parents, including from school board member Alvin Dupree. The district then hired consultant Duane McCrary to review the court.
Dupree says the report solidified things that he had heard, and they need to throw out the system.
McCrary is recommending that Outagamie County Judge Mark McGinnis be replaced by two other rotating judges. He says McGinnis bullied students, and brought a negative undertone to the hearings.
Superintendent Judy Baseman says administrators will develop a plan on how to move forward. She says she’ll present it to school board members on January 10th.
