People in Oshkosh who rent out rooms or houses could have to start paying room taxes this year.
The city is working to change its short-term rental law, to cover sites like Air BNB and Vacation Rental By Owner.
City Manager Mark Rohloff says when people rent out a room or a house, they should have to pay the 10 percent tax like hotels do. He says it’s all about fairness.
The hotel room tax in Oshkosh is 10 percent. The council will vote on the new rule later this month.
Tonight, members are expected to vote on a change to rental inspection requirements to focus on problem areas. A new state law bans the city from inspecting all apartments, every five years.
