Two top lawmakers in the Assembly say it’s worth looking at creating a red flag law in the state.
It would let law enforcement take guns away from people, if there are concerns.
Assembly Minority Leader Gordon Hintz of Oshkosh was on Fresh Take with Josh Dukelow on WHBY this morning. He says they want to keep guns out of the hands of people who are a danger to themselves or others, in a way that’s constitutional.
Hintz says other states have similar bills, and lawmakers can go over them.
Republican Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke of Vandenbroek says an Outagamie County judge told him they’re already able to take guns away in about 90 percent of cases. He says lawmakers should be open minded, if there’s a way to get at the other 10 percent, without infringing on constitutional rights.
There were protests at the state Capitol over the weekend over the red flag issue.
