Governor Evers wants to hold off on closing the state’s troubled juvenile prison indefinitely.
He’ll include that proposal in his state budget, along with plans to spend an additional $200 million on replacement facilities.
Evers will also call for increasing the age for juveniles to be charged as adults from 17 to 18. That was one of his campaign promises.
Wisconsin is one of only six states that treat 17-year-olds as adults. Majority Republicans in the Legislature are reportedly split on that change.
