The leader of the Oneida Nation is urging state lawmakers to eliminate the remaining Native American high school mascots.
Tehassi Hill gave the annual State of the Tribes address at the Capitol yesterday. He says the use of Native American imagery stereotypes and dehumanizes their culture for the sake of entertainment.
Hill says 31 schools in the state still have those mascots. He’s also calling on lawmakers to protect the environment and aggressively fight chronic wasting disease in deer.
