The leader of Kaukauna says the cancellation of the Electric City Experience music festival is going to be a big loss for the downtown.
Organizers are blaming rising costs, and the lack of volunteer help, for calling off the five-day event.
Mayor Tony Penterman says it brought between 20,000 and 25,000 people to the downtown, and they would check out the shops. He says the carnival brought younger people into the area.
He’s calling it “just disappointing all around.”
It was going to be the fifth year of the festival. It started as a one-day event to celebrate the 225th anniversary of the community.
Penterman says there will still be live music in the city this summer, through the Live from Hydro Park series. Bands will play on Wednesdays, starting in June.
