A political science professor says it’s very rare that the trailing candidate picks up enough votes in a recount to win.
There won’t be a review of every vote in the state Supreme Court race, now that state Appeals Court Judge Lisa Neubauer is conceding. She was trailing state Appeals Court Judge Brian Hagedorn by about 6,000 votes.
Lawrence University Professor Arnold Shober says since 2000, only three recounts in the U.S. have ended with a different winner. He says the average margin in those races, before the recount, was around 220 votes.
Hagedorn’s win gives conservatives a 5-2 majority on the state Supreme Court.
