The man convicted of kidnapping Jayme Closs and killing her parents will be in prison for the rest of his life.
Barron County Judge James Babler ruled that 21-year-old Jake Patterson should never be eligible for parole.
Patterson pleaded guilty to the murders of James and Denise Closs, and the kidnapping of the 13-year-old girl.
Jayme’s attorney, Chris Gramstrup, read a statement from her, during the sentencing hearing. She says Patterson stole her parents from her, and stole almost everything else she loved from her. Closs says for 88 days, he tried to steal her, and he didn’t care who he hurt or who he killed to do that. She says Patterson should stay locked up forever.
Closs escaped in January. She says Patterson can’t take away her freedom or spirit. She says he can’t stop her from being happy, and moving on with her life.
