The head of a business group is willing to talk about other possibilities to deal with street assessments in Oshkosh.
The Common Council voted 5-4 last night, against creating a transportation fee to cover much of the cost of rebuilding streets.
Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce President John Casper says Mayor Lori Palmeri reached out to him this morning about coming up with another solution. He says he’s open to ideas.
Casper says while he’s not crazy about the idea, a wheel tax like Appleton’s might be something to look at.
The transportation fee would’ve been added to water bills.
People would’ve been charged $4.50 a month for a typical residential lot. Casper says larger commercial properties, and apartment building owners would’ve had to pay a larger share of street projects.
