A Republican lawmaker from Greenville is proposing a cap on tuition increases at UW-System schools.
The state has had a tuition freeze in place for several years. Representative Dave Murphy says if they eventually lift that he wants to limit any hikes to inflation. Once they’re in school Murphy doesn’t think students should have to pay higher rates every year. He says each student’s tuition would be frozen for four years.
But Murphy says they would pay the same rate as new students if they’re still in school after four years.
Murphy is the chair of the Assembly’s committee on colleges and universities.
