A kitchen fire at a house in the downtown Appleton area put itself out last night.
Lt. Steve Unruh says that’s pretty unusual.
Crews were called to a home in the 700 block of E. Eldorado Street, near City Park, around 10 p.m. He says something started burning on the stove, and no one was there.
Unruh says the windows were closed, and the air conditioning was on, so there wasn’t enough oxygen for the fire to continue to burn.
Unruh estimates there’s $40,000 in damage.
When the people who live there got back, they heard the smoke alarm and saw everything in the kitchen was black.
