Grand Chute’s new police dog died.
Police Officer Travis Waas says Eragon was recovering from surgery, after swallowing something, and he developed pneumonia.
Waas is calling it an accident, and a freak thing to happen. He says it’s a one-in-a-million chance, and unfortunately, Eragon was picked.
Waas says the three-year-old German Shepard went in for surgery last Friday, and he died on Tuesday.
Eragon had been on the job since May.
The department’s other K-9, Fram, was diagnosed with cancer in 2017, and he was going to retire next month.
Waas says Fram’s handler believes the dog is doing well. He’ll continue to work, as long as he’s willing and capable.
Fram joined the department in 2011.
