The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department is trying to get more AEDs for squad cars.
Gold Cross Ambulance is donating two of them, and at the same time drawing attention to the difference they make.
Lt. Ryan Carpenter says the story of an Ellington man helped inspire their goal. He says Jeremy Trost survived a heart attack, after a 911 dispatcher helped Trost’s partner, Josh Koleske, do CPR.
Carpenter says only seven percent of people survive a heart attack when they’re only given CPR. The figure rises to 33 percent when an AED is used.
Carpenter says they now have AEDs in 16 squad cars. They hope to get enough money, through grants and other sources, to have 28 by the end of the year.
