De Pere High School is using robots to keep sick kids in class.
They’re called Beam Bots, and they have two-way video screens so students can see what’s going on in the classroom. They can also interact with teachers and other students.
English teacher Stefanie Enderbie says one of her students with multiple sclerosis uses the robot. She thinks it’s important for kids to have a connection with other children. She says two of her students argue almost every day about which one gets to take the robot back to the office at the end of the hour.
The district has two of the robots.
The Appleton and Green Bay districts also use Beam Bots for kids with long-term medical conditions.
