Oshkosh firefighters rescued a puppy from the Fox River yesterday.
The dog got loose on the UW-Oshkosh campus, and it broke through the ice near the Wisconsin Street Bridge. After someone called 911, Firefighter Tony Montag put on a special water suit, and went in.
Montag says broke through the ice about 10 feet from shore, and he had to break the ice the rest of the way, to get to the dog. He says once the ice was cleared the dog swam right to him.
Firefighters used a rope to pull them both to shore.
Montag says it’s a reminder that the ice on the river is thin, and people need to stay off it.
