A report on ACT scores in the state shows there are racial and economic disparities.
Researcher Jason Stein of the Wisconsin Policy Forum says the results from the math section really stand out. He says only four percent of African-American students met the benchmark for being ready to get a “C” or less, in an entry-level college math class.
The average overall score in Wisconsin was 19.6 last year. It’s the second straight year that’s slipped. It was 20 two years earlier.
Every high school junior in the state takes the ACT. Wisconsin ranks second, behind Minnesota, for the highest average score among states with that requirement.
