A spokesman for Appleton International Airport is optimistic more people will start flying again.
The airport saw a huge drop in passengers during its busiest time of the year, thanks to coronavirus.
Patrick Tracey says airlines are reporting an increase in ticket sales, and the TSA saw the fewest number of people passing through checkpoints, two weeks ago. He says they’re hearing there’s a lot of pent-up demand, from people wanting to still take a vacation this year, in the late summer or fall.
The airport’s biggest weeks are the final two in March, and throughout April. The passenger numbers for April plummeted by 95 percent, from almost 68,000 in 2019 to less than 3,200 this year.
