A proposed change in state law could help increase diversity in police departments.
Republican Rep. David Steffen of Howard says DACA applicants can’t be an officer in Wisconsin, but they can serve in the military and work for the State Patrol.
He says he’s been working on the bill with Rep. John Macco of Ledgeview for a few months. He says Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith brought up the issue.
Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich also supports the proposal.
