Former Oshkosh School Superintendent Vicki Cartwright has landed on her feet in Florida. Cartwright is serving as the interim Superintendent of Broward County Schools–the sixth largest school district in the country. Since taking over in late July, Cartwright has been involved in a battle with Governor Ron DeSantis over mandatory masking–as Broward County Schools adopted such a policy before the Governor issued an order banning it. Three district employees have died from COVID-19-related illnesses since schools opened–which led to a personal call from President Biden offering support. Cartwright resigned at the end of June in Oshkosh after sharp criticism of her management style and clashes with parents over coronavirus precautions in schools. Before coming to Oshkosh, Cartwright was superintendent of the Orange County Schools around Orlando.
