For simply ringing a doorbell….
Or, searching for a friend’s house and turning around in the wrong driveway….
Or, mistakenly getting into the wrong car in a supermarket parking lot…
Or, having your basketball roll into his yard…
Or, while heading home from a concert and being in the wrong place at the wrong time when a gun battle breaks out….
All of these incidents happening this week involved people using their guns instead of their brains in handling a situation presented to them. Most of those shot survived these attacks, but not all of them. None of these victims should have feared for their lives, but sadly and unwittingly, they needed to.
Common sense gun laws won’t happen if we don’t start using common sense in assessing why this is happening and what we can do about it. Until then….take a breath, relax and…put the gun away.
