43 million Americans are straddled with an immense amount of student loans. It totals over 1.78 trillion dollars, which is more than any other type of debt, outside of mortgages.
Just about a year ago the Biden administration had put together a plan to forgive 400 billion dollars of the debt in an effort to rejuvenate the millennials and Gen Z-ers who have been struggling to find breathing room.
That plan has been stuck in purgatory as the Supreme Court (influenced by 2 billionaires and their handouts) have “deliberated” the case.
They ruled earlier today that the forgiveness is not constitutional (I assume because it doesn’t benefit the donor class), and it will not be moving forward.
I intended to have a conversation with Braxton Brewington of the Debt Collective about what he hoped to see happen prior to the ruling, but seeing as we have an answer, he told me what he and his organization hope the next steps will be, now that President Biden’s proposal is dead in the water.
