Dave Edwards and It’s Just my Take, 9-22-23
My apples are good this year, just a little small! So, we take the good with the bad!
Yep, experts have been saying that due to this year’s drought, our Honeycrisps and Macintosh, etal, will be a bit smaller this year. That said, the heat of the summer did help to ripen them faster. So, we’re off and running on eating them, but we’ll take fewer bites to finish one of these bad boys!
Full disclosure: I lost about a third of my Honeycrisp tree this year to storms and maybe a poor job of thinning the herd this summer. I let too many branches carry too much weight and a big wind hit during a thundershower and bang, down went a huge branch. Bummer. Makes the tree look a bit odd, but I guess it fits this year.
FYI—my wife has already whipped up a mean apple crisp, so getting creative with the crop has begun!
