MADISON, Wis. — Governor Tony Evers sues the state Legislature.
The lawsuit, filed by Attorney General Josh Kaul at the request of Evers, claims legislative Republicans are “unconstitutionally and unlawfully obstructing basic government functions” by blocking approved pay raises for UW System employees, conservation projects under the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program, and updates to the state’s commercial building and ethics standards for certain licensed professionals.
The lawsuit further alleges that the legislature has worked to violate the constitution by creating more “legislative vetoes” and attempting to change state law without passing a bill through both houses and sending it to Evers.
The Legislature has not issued a formal response.
